Gender Justice focused on Women´s Rights
We contribute to reducing the severe gender gaps and situations of inequality, exclusion, and violence experienced by women in Guatemala, especially indigenous women. We believe that women in all their diversities, and all people regardless of gender, can lead a dignified life, free from violence and in fullness.
A fundamental commitment is the empowerment of women and youth, especially indigenous women, which will ensure their voices are heard, strengthen their leadership, enhance their self-awareness, and promote their sexual and reproductive rights, as well as their economic rights.
Environmental Management and Sustainable Territories
We recognize the leading role and priority of indigenous farming communities, along with other allied actors such as farmers, indigenous, environmental organizations, and faith-based actors, as promoters of important collaborations to build sustainable, equitable, and inclusive models of collective development in different territories.
Through the promotion of alliances and knowledge building, we hope that communities and defenders will exercise their individual and collective rights to defend their territory and natural resources under conditions of greater safety and protection.
Justice and Human Rights
We understand that human rights defenders must be recognized as rights holders, raising their voices in the pursuit of justice and in denouncing situations that violate their rights, both in national and international human rights spaces, with special attention to women and indigenous peoples.
Promotion of alliances and synergies among civil society actors is a central strategy of the Program. Also, to advocate for the right to defend rights, the approval of protection policies, and the development of self-protection proposals from within the communities through the creation of safe spaces.
Disaster Prevention and Humanitarian Aid
We seek to adopt appropriate risk reduction measures at the level of community knowledge and practices, as well as to have tools and standards for disaster risk management, strengthen their organization, and enhance their response and rehabilitation capacity. Ultimately, we aim to contribute from an approach that enhances the resilience of these communities in the face of the consequences of climate change and other existing threats.
